About MC

How I started...

My plan was to be a stay at home mom with any children I might have, and work when they went to school.  My first daughter was born in 1982.  Jessica's motor development was delayed in her first year, but she did say "baby" and "bird" before her first birthday.  By 3 years old she was saying about 100 words, but never talking in sentences.  Then at 3 and a half she started having screaming fits that lasted from 1 to 5 hours!  Finally she was diagnosed as having Rett Syndrome when she was 4.  This picture is us at our church camp when she was 4 and doing the classic handwringing characteristic of the syndrome.

I couldn't find anyone willing to care for her by the time she was 2; most places insisted a child be potty trained by 2, and Jessica will be in diapers for life.  So inspired by my friend's mother, I decided to start my own daycare.  I wanted to give Jessica the best care I could.  We were thrilled to welcome our second child into a daycare home; she's been around lots of other children all her life.

I have very good memories of our early childhood.  I have 2 sisters; one older and one younger.  We started out living in a little house in the country.  Our mom did a lot of fun activities with us and we got to explore the yard around the house.  I would like to help the children that come to our home to experience some of those good memories, and learn about Jesus' love.

We are Seventh-day Adventist Christians and care deeply about the spiritual needs of each child.  We do not get into any doctrinal issues with any of the children but just try to introduce the children to our best Friend and Savior.  We pray before meals and read Bible stories.  We mention how He made the treasures we find in the yard, like a pretty flower, just to make us happy.  We hope to plant a seed in each child's heart that will grow and they will want to learn more about God someday for themselves.

Paths to Quality
Level 2

Currently my daycare is rated Level 2 with Paths to Quality.  This is a rating system for Indiana childcares.  At Level 2 I provide a safe place to care for your child/ren, and I facilitate learning through educational activities, toys that promote learning, setting up stations and reading.  I work with the school-age children in the afternoon with our Homework Club.
